Three Midwest Truck Dealerships Merge to Become The Trivista Company
Taking the opportunity to grow as a business means more than a quick buck in the heartland states. It’s about being humble, smart and conservative. Planning business decisions with a deliberate strategy. Keeping the customer’s best interests in mind. Trust. Long-term partnerships. That’s the Midwest way.
In May 2017, three multi-generational, Midwest truck dealerships – Cerni Motor Sales, O’Halloran International and Uhl Truck Sales – came together to officially form the TriVista Company. This merger was, and will always be, about benefiting the customer, staying true to company history and values, employee relationships and a strong sense of community.
Each company is a long-time dealer of International® Trucks, Navistar’s flagship brand. They will continue to offer International’s complete vocational, medium-duty and over-the-road truck product lines. They also perform maintenance services for International Buses, leasing products from Idealease Inc. and other complimentary products and services.
About Cerni Motors
Cerni Motors began fulfilling the needs of the Ohio-based trucking industry in 1961 when brothers John and Charlie Cerni opened for business. Then in 1990, John II and Joe Cerni (sons of John) purchased the company. In 2010, after growing up and working in the family business throughout most of his life, John II’s son Vince joined the company to stay as the third generation, full-time partner.
Over the years Cerni Motors used their family-oriented and customer focused values to expand their service area to two dealerships in Painesville and Youngstown, Ohio, covering six counties in the Northeast Ohio region.
Cerni Motors also serves as a dealership for Benson trailers.
In 1981, Jim O’Halloran, Sr. founded O’Halloran International in Altoona, Iowa. With a focus on the customer and core values in integrity, fairness and quality service the company successfully expanded to three additional Iowa locations in Carroll, Fort Dodge and Cherokee. Jim O’Halloran Jr. joined the company in the 1990s, working his way up to his current role as company owner and President.
O’Halloran International also serves as a dealership for Isuzu commercial vehicles.
The journey to where Uhl Truck Sales is today, began in 1953 when Bernard Uhl purchased an International Harvester franchise in Palmyra, Indiana. After he incorporated full service truck leasing into the business he opened Uhl Truck Sales of Kentuckiana in Louisville, Kentucky.
In 1994, Bernard sold the business to his son Todd and son-in-law Mike Shireman. Todd retired in 2006 selling his ownership to Mike who then retired in 2012, selling the company to his son John Shireman who will now be the third-generation owner.
With each change of hands, Uhl Truck has seen Bernard’s value for responsive, professional service and long-term relationships passed to each generation. Uhl now has three locations in New Albany, Indiana; Palmyra, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky.
